FAQ
What does a treadwear rating of 200–299 mean?
Treadwear is the maker's rating of wear against the government's control tire, which is graded 100; a grade of 200 means the tire is rated to wear twice as slowly on the test course. For 200–299 that works out to 2 to just under 3 times as slowly (our arithmetic). It is not a mileage figure and varies with driving, vehicle and maintenance.
How many tire lines have treadwear 200–299?
413 lines in the NHTSA file we downloaded on 2026-10-25, by median grade. That is 13.7% of 3,020 rated lines.
Which brand has the most lines in the 200–299 band?
Dunlop (53 lines), followed by Hankook (48). Counting lines is not a ranking of quality or popularity.
