FAQ
What does a treadwear rating of 300–399 mean?
Treadwear is the maker's rating of wear against the government's control tire, which is graded 100; a grade of 200 means the tire is rated to wear twice as slowly on the test course. For 300–399 that works out to 3 to just under 4 times as slowly (our arithmetic). It is not a mileage figure and varies with driving, vehicle and maintenance.
How many tire lines have treadwear 300–399?
703 lines in the NHTSA file we downloaded on 2026-10-25, by median grade. That is 23.3% of 3,020 rated lines.
Which brand has the most lines in the 300–399 band?
Hankook (80 lines), followed by Dunlop (61). Counting lines is not a ranking of quality or popularity.
